“You don’t have to be an artist or dancer to express something that is almost impossible (and often painful) to put into words, you just have to have a go...”

— Jan Jeans

Creative arts and conscious dance have enhanced my life, helped me through some challenging times and deepened my experience of life. I have danced my way through loss, despair and inertia. I have used art to shine a light on the shadows within.

Creative Offering

I am a multidisciplinary therapeutic practitioner working across areas of self, relationships and trauma. My practice is predominately informed by an embodied dance based practice HeartDance which is informed by Open Floor movement discipline as well as formal training and extensive experience in counselling, arts therapy and supervision. I offer a creative therapeutic practice for individuals and groups from my Lyttelton studio as well as facilitating regular HeartDance workshops and professional developement opportunities.

  • HeartDance is a localised evolution of Open Floor dance, a movement practice that has evolved over many years out of a rich tapestry of conscious dance practices through out the world. My classes and workshops all have a few words of guidance in the warm up stage to help you settle into your body and connect with yourself.

  • I am a ANZACATA registered supervisor offering supervision to training and professional  therapists and counsellors.  As your supervisor I will help you navigate complex cases, reflect on clinical work, and develop professional skills. I also offer professional development opportunities for small groups which allow for a greater sharing of my own professional knowledge and experience.

  • I offer arts therapy and counselling sessions with children, adults, groups and families. We can talk, or do art, or a combination of both. I have a huge range of methods and techniques that I have acquired over many years of practising and learning as a therapist. My role is to listen, understand, witness, suggest, walk alongside, support and just be with another person in whatever state or place they may find themselves in.

“Jan’s gentle and welcoming manner reassured me and made me feel comfortable and safe. She worked WITH me and opened my mind to many wrongly held beliefs about myself. Her voice still resonates with me in certain situations and I say a big thank you to her in my mind!”
